Campers and hikers can usually encounter bears on their trips. That's why it is essential to know how to survive such encounters. Many have said to play dead once a bear is spotted. However, wildlife biologist Pat Owen who teaches bear safety training says that “The right thing to do is not drop until that bear is practically on top of you.”

Some other tips to take into consideration when running into a bear are to make yourself bigger by making noise and making sure bears know you are approaching to avoid surprise attacks, and never getting in between a momma bear and her cubs. Bears are more aggressive when they believe their cubs are in danger. Moreover, it is always a good idea to stay alert of your surroundings. In the end, 99.99% of the time, bears usually flee and avoid encounters with humans.
